Serene and the Spirits was written by Arielle Strauss Brueland and illustrated by Lucia Nobrega!
It’s a gorgeous book filled with the illustrations that brings the story to life! 

Serene is a three-year-old Japanese -American girl who lives in Ohio with her moms. Serene is excited that her family will visit her cousins in Japan and attend the Obon’s annual Buddhist summer festival. The celebration commemorates one’s ancestors, and Serene spends the day connecting with the spirits of their ancestors.

Arielle took the opportunity introduce and read the book “Serene and the Spirits” to three kindergarten classes (70 students!). In addition to the reading, Arielle gave all the students a coloring book page for them to draw their family sharing a feast around this traditional Japanese tea table!
